You know the feeling when everyone’s telling you about the unlikeliness of airports in India? I was particularly excited to confirm it. But to my surprised, it was looking more decent than Manila airports. The moment I stepped out of the airport, I felt India right away-beautiful, exotic and exciting—especially when a misty fog and a breeze similar to an early morning spring welcomed me.
Welcome to New Delhi. The man in the coat and tie bowed his head and showed us the way to the lavish reception. In the morning, we were greeted with a lavish Western breakfast, sitting in the corridor staring at the doves while the water fountain synchronized. And the real experience started a few meters away from that enchanting breakfast.
My morning in New Delhi was exciting and colorful. The motorcycles were endlessly filling up, yet the traffic lights have been no superior to a crossing cow, pig or dog. The women were beautiful walking with their sarongs, and the men were looking smart with long sleeves; old men usually wear shawls to protect themselves from coldness, I guess. But, while many were busy, especially the women, I have seen bunches of people filling up the alleys, fully covered by a blanket, sleeping. Even at daytime and lunchtime, they comfortably spend a siesta in parks and in spacious areas.
Even though there’s an overwhelmingly extravagant display of wealth, and yet, there’s so much appearance of a lack of it, Indians (especially the latter – the ordinary people in the streets giving their best to live a day) remain to be really amazing people. I loved it that they were always seeming fascinated, like a foreigner seeing the place for the very first time.
The fascinating heritage sites, luxurious hotels, colorful Indian cultures, spices and busy markets, their high respect for living things and animals, and the simple joys and wide smiles of its humble people makes New Delhi a secret charmer.

I’m using Canon 450D, but it doesn’t matter to me, I am not a camera person. I prefer to bring a small compact camera and/or smart phone when traveling.
